I discovered today that this current design doesn’t work in IE (there’s a surprise!). I will try and fix this, although at the moment I’m not that keen on the current design. At some point in the next few days I will sit down and design my blog properly so its appearance will stay consistent for a decent period of time.
Went to CU tonight. It was good.
Tomorrow I am meeting Joel to discuss cell, and then to go on for a game of footy, whoop!! I really need to get fit!!
It’s been an interesting weekend.
Friday was a lot of fun. My cell group, Friday night Cell(FNC) went to the Friday night Church(also FNC) and came third. We beat the other two CU teams and enjoyed a free hot chocolate as our prize.
Saturday was also nice. I went to “The Study” to watch Cheltenham take on Newcastle in the FA Cup. Now what would normally happen is me, Dave and Joel would go to The Study to watch the match and have some lunch, its nice cheap food in there. Only this time it was rammed full of people. So we ended up making a mad dash to Burger King at half time. It was a good game though, very enjoyable.
Sunday, was also good. Went to Trinity and then went to Cambray as Lucy form CU was being baptised, always good. This was followed by a chocolate fountain at the girls house, also much fun.
Anyway, this week I will be starting my YCN brief, adding more to the site, look out for some portfolio additions and searching for a workplacement.
I read this article at dopamineaddict and found it particularly thought provoking. THe comments are also very interesting to read. Take a look.
One of the blogs I read called Tauquil’s Blog posted an interesting idea today. He has started a flickr gallery of images and pieces of design he finds inspirational. I might have to start one of these up. Seems like a good idea. especially as his blog will be in mine!!
Kate just sent me an email which I found quite amusing. The idea is that you go to Google and type in your name followed by the word needs, so for example “phil needs”. Then do the search and see what it brings up. One of the ones it brought up for me was “Phil needs a born again experience with Jesus Christ”. Looks like I’m on the right track then!!
For those of you who don’t know what an RSS feed is or how they work, you should go and check this article by Paul Stamatiou out. Its very useful.
Introduction that is. I’m just going to explain how this blog works, what to look out for and to request design feedback.
You will notice in an earlier post I made a comment about only having 3 categories. Now the keen eyed ones amoungst you will notice this is significantly less than my previous blog which had around 10. Now the idea behind this is that each post will be either classed as ‘content’, ‘notes’ or ‘noteworthy’. The ‘content’ posts will be the main blog posts. They are most likely to make up the meat of my blog. The ‘notes’ will be little snippets of info, they maybe a link to a site I have visited which I want to share with the world or just a general post that doesn’t quite warrant being classed as ‘content’. This leaves just the ‘noteworthy’ category. Posts within this category are posts which I feel deserve a little bit of extra merit, something to make them stand out from the crowd a little bit.
Ok, so thats how the categories are going to work. You might be wondering how the heck am I going to find something about a piece of design Phil has done? Well the simple answer is this. Each post will have a list of tags. These tags will help you narrow down your search. For example, if I make a post about the project I handed in on Tuesday, it will contain tags along the lines of “design, my design, calendar, project, uni”. You could then go to the search, or the tag cloud on the archives page and select maybe calendar. This will then show you all the posts that have been tagged with this.
Whilst over the next few weeks you may see the appearance of my blog change, some of it is already nailed down how I want it to look. The overall look of the blog for instance is likely to stay in this single column view. The flickr stream (those pictures at the bottom) is also likely to stay where it is. You can see the comments module as well just above the flickr stream. Its likely this will stay here, although its appearance is likely to change. I can’t get the feedlink icon to move next to the comments heading at the moment, very frustrating!
Anyway, I will sign off now as this post is getting long. I hope to give you more of an insight of what is in store for my blog over the next week.
Here is a normal post. We now have a post in all 3 categories. More to come about the explanation of the categories later. Once the setup is complete.
This is just a small note to demonstrate the asides or notes as I call them. Its for testing purposes, but will help you to see the layout of the content of the blog.
Welcome to electricweekend.com. This is my official blog. It is under a period of testing at the moment. It is likely to go through a lot of changes in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Since this is my first post of the blog, I have placed it in the noteworthy category. Although it doesn’t say alot, it still represents an important mile stone in the life of this blog.
Well not the last one ever, just on this blog. I’m moving you see. Here is the link
so as a small request, those of you who read this, have it bookmarded, or have links to this blog please update them to my new one. You see the new one is more interesting. It’s more Phil. So everyone rush over HERE and read that one instead.
I hate it when things aren’t there when there is no reason why it shouldn’t be!!
Ok, as anyone who has read this blog will know, I want a proper wordpress blog which I can design and customise and make mine, rather than one of these standard template thingys. So I finally found some where I can have one for free and now I have a week off lectures I am taking the chance to set it up. Everything is installed, except for one screen, and there is no reason why it is not there!! I have reinstalled it, tried over and over, but it just won’t flaming appear. Without it I can’t do what I want. I have it all set up on my iBook and it looks good, or at least will do with a bit more tweaking, might post a screen shot later. Plus the people on the help forum are being lame and not replying to my plea for help. ARGH!!!!
Anyway, voice is still here, its getting better, not quite normal but not far off although it gets a bit husky sometimes!!
So, if anyone knows about wordpress and the K2 theme found at binary bonsai then please let me know.
Yep, my voice its back. It’s done its little holiday trip, dunno where it went, it’s refusing to tell me, maybe it took Ruth’s voice on holiday as hers has now come back as well. Or not, which is most likely, but most importantly its back. Its recovering slowly and growing in strength to, its almost normal Phil again!!
Apart from the cough, that flaming cough. It seems to have arrived with my voice, bit chesty, bit dry and very annoying. Hope it doesn’t stay too long.
Just watched Lost. Man that program is good. I’m getting quite addicted to it, I just wish I didn’t have to wait a week between each episode. I mean they could play one episode a night, or even every other night, that would do, but no, they make you wait!!
I really should be in bed, but I’m just not tired, I dunno, not having to get up in the morning really messes your body clock up, as does being ill and sleeping more than you should.
I’m trying to start drawing again. I did one sketch today and I’m planning on doing at least one sketch a day, gives me something to do and I actually get quite engrossed in it when I sit down and do it. So post any ideas of things for me to draw if you want, would be good.
It’s been a busy week or so since I last updated. I have been working hard on my project which is now all handed in, woo!!
Weekend was fun, me and Craig cooked for Jen, Ruth and Names, cos they had been on placemeant for 3 days so we thought we would treat them. Ruth’s friend Emma came aswell as Ruth’s bro David. That was quite fun, we ahd a laugh at ours on friday night and then at Ruth’s on Saturday. That was after me had been to see the fireworks at the Racecourse, which was also fun.
Woke up Sunday and felt awful. Monday wasn’t much better, and my throat was absolutely killing me yesterday. In fact voice was starting to go late last night, when I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning it was gone fullstop. Bit rubbish, and it meant I didn’t have to do my presentation today.
Anyways, its very annoying not having a voice. It occasionally comes back but sounds rough as anything and hurts like heck, so it will be lots of sleep over the next few days, especailly as I don’t have any lectures this week!!
Well, I didn’t get much work done today, looks like I will be doing it tomorrow instead. I did manage to get emails out to cell leaders and got some updating of the CU site in, although that is no where near finished and will have to wait til I have a bit more spare time. Discoverd that I have an assignment in at the end of the week so this week is gonna be a busy one. ergh!!
Forest won, woo!! We are now 2 points off the play offs in 10th and heading to Bournemouth in the next league game. Come on you reds!!
I’m a bit curious to see who, if anyone other than my Dad and Ernie read this. So if you do, please leave me a comment.
Heres to a productive work day tomorrow!!
Well Friday came off pretty well. Jess came over and we managed to sort out all the cells. I asked Dad about the quiz, albeit not over the phone, but I asked. The only thing that didn’t happen was coffee with Kate. My fault though, apparnatly I said I would text her after my lecture and I forgot. So I was waiting for her to come over, and she was waiting for me to text her to ask her over. Ah well, maybe next week.
Hopefully tommorrows plan will be just as succesful.
In the mean time, I fiddled with my blog abit. I changed the skin, this one is much nicer. I edited the links section so its a bit more how I wanted it to be. Since people seem to read this one more than the other one, I think I will just concentrate on this, it seems abit daft to post the same thing on 2 blogs. Hopefully I will be able to customise this one a bit more, maybe the header I wouldn’t mind doing something a bit more personal and Phil related, but we shall see. The only thing I don’t like about this blog is that it doesn’t have full Safari support so I have to use Firefox everytime I want to post. I suppose its not to bad and could be worse.
Here’s to another productive day tomorrow.
Ok, so this weekend I need a plan. I have lots of stuff to do, so I need a plan to make sure I get it done!
Starting with today. Lecture, Kate is coming for a coffee, I need to organise the cells for CU, I have to ring Dad and ask him to so something for me (we need a quiz for CU!!).
Saturday. Work. I need to push on with my “eclipse” project, need to sort out the label and how it will look. Keep upto date with the Forest score. Maybe see some friends.
Sunday. Finish off stuuf I didn’t do on Friday or Saturday. Go to church, not sure on this one, I didn’t particularly like Cambray, it was a little bland for me, but I don’t feel comfortable at Trinity, oh the dilema!
The chances of it all happening. Well Friday is gonna happen, Lecture is a must, Kate is coming so thats sorted, just to do the cells, and that will be done as it needs to be done. Saturday. Chances of that happening are also quite high. Craig is at work, James is at home so only Steve and Dan around the house, means its quite possible that work will be completed. Sunday, well more of the same so that will happen. Woo! Hopefully a productive weekend for Phil is on the way.
Who ever invented the little rooms in houses often coined as a “bedroom” was clearly having a laugh. They blatently knew that when it comes to doing a graphic design project in the smallest room in the house would not be funny. I mean come on. I have paper all over the place, my desk isn’t big enough for my work and my computer, so I have a small collapseable table to use. But its just not funny. You should see me getting in and out of my chair, its impossible, I ussually end up running over my foot with the flipping thing. Grrrrrrrrr!
Anyway, the conclusion. NEVER get drawn the little room. Actually lets appeal to all architects and landlords to NEVER DESIGN OR MAKE A LITTLE ROOM IN A HOUSE!!!!!
Ah, that feels better now I have got it off my chest.
In a frantic few weeks it now looks like time to sit and reflect on the events. The 3rd and final birthday for a while has just passed, so it could be a bit more peaceful and slightly less stressful, although celebrating is fun, the planning and aftermath isn’t.
After living in the house for 5 weeks, its now time to bring a few considerations into play. The landlord has asked if we are interested in having this house next year. I mean come on, give us a chance to decide, 5 weeks is not nearly long enough to decide. Althogh having said that I do already know who I want to live with, and who I don’t. This may seem odd, but its quite easy really. Whether I will be able to live with who I want to next year is not clear, we shall see I suppose.
Vault 49 are a bunch of Graphic Designers who I think are absolutely superb. They have done some wonderful works of art for a wide variety of clients.
My favourite piece of their work is the front covers of a Renaissance Mix CD. I even managed to find an advert for it in a magazine and it now adorns my wall(well part of my random wall). I like the way they fuse illustration and photography in their works, they work so well together, and I would love to be able to create pieces of work like the stuff they do. Well, I suppose its a case of I will be soon, hehe, since I’m doing Graphic Design at uni.
I suggest you go and take a look, its well worth it.
